Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this site. We work toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We are a small company, so this page tells you plainly what is in place, what is not, and who to contact when something gets in your way.

If you are stuck right now

Email andrew@4thmanroasters.com and a person will answer. If any part of ordering is not working for you, we will take your order directly and get your coffee to you. You do not have to fight with the website to buy from us.

What is in place today

• Skip links at the top of every page, so you can jump straight to the content or to the shop without tabbing through the menu.
• The site can be navigated by keyboard, and we have not removed focus outlines.
• Every image carries alternative text describing what it shows.
• Headings are structured in order, so a screen reader can move through a page.
• Pages work at larger text sizes and on a phone.

What is not there yet

We would rather name these than let you find them.

• Motion.This site animates as you scroll, and it does not currently follow the “reduce motion” setting on your device. If animation makes you dizzy or unwell, email us and we will help you get what you need from the site while we fix this.
• We have not been formally audited. We have not had an independent accessibility review, so we do not claim to meet the standard. We claim to be working toward it.

Checkout and other services we do not control

Our shop and checkout run on Shopify, and some parts of this site use services built by other companies. We do not control that code and cannot change it. We are still responsible for getting you your coffee, so if any of it blocks you, tell us and we will handle the order ourselves.

Why there is no accessibility widget on this site

You may have seen a small accessibility icon in the corner of other websites. We have chosen not to use one. Those tools sit on top of a site rather than fixing it, people who use screen readers often report that they interfere with the software they already rely on, and in January 2025 the Federal Trade Commission fined the largest of these companies $1,000,000 for claiming its product made websites compliant when it did not. We would rather spend the effort on the site itself.
